29 NHS dental practices in England started taking new NHS patients in the 7 days to 15:38 UK time on 6 Nov 2026 and still said they were then: 20 for adults, 1 only for adults entitled to free NHS dental care, 27 for children. At the same time, 1,779 of the 5,847 practices in England (30%) said they took new adult NHS patients.

How we count

  • Started taking = a practice's status on the NHS website's Find a dentist service changed from not taking to taking new NHS patients (adults, adults entitled to free care, or children) between two of our reads, in the 7 days before the time above, and it still said so at our read at that time. We read every practice in England about once an hour and started on 30 Oct 2026. Practices that started and stopped again within the week aren't listed.
  • Practices update their status themselves, so it can be weeks old. England's totals count practices offering routine NHS care (not specialist referral services).
